Adrian Shackleton
Adrian was born and educated in Mount Isa. He began his working career in 1984 as an Apprentice Plumber with Mount Isa Mines Ltd.
After completing his trade he joined the Australian Army, working over a fourteen year period through a number of supervisory and project management positions throughout Australia and the Asia Pacific region. During this time he successfully planned and delivered vertical construction projects in demanding environments including East Timor, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Nauru and several Aboriginal Communities throughout Australia.
Workforce training and development has always been at the forefront of much of Adrian’s career and he has worked in several Private RTO’s, where he had lead responsibility for writing and developing training packages and trade doctrine, as well as planning and delivering training and assessment.
Adrian holds a Masters in Engineering Science (Project Management) through the University of New South Wales, an Advanced Diploma of Construction Works Management, a Diploma in Project Management, a Diploma in Business (Frontline Management), a second Diploma in Business, the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training and the Certificate IV in Vocational Training and Mentoring.
Adrian left the Defence Force to take up a position as the Training Development Manager for Services and Off Site Construction at Construction Training Queensland (CTQ) in August 2005. In early 2007 he was appointed as the Operations Manager, second to the General Manager CTQ and in August 2007 took over as Acting General Manager, CTQ.
During 2008 Adrian was part of a project team implementing the Hutchinson Builders Workforce Development project, a project which won Hutchinson Builders a coveted Construction Skills Queensland Award.
In 2009, Adrian returned to the Mining sector working on engineering projects aimed at delivering sustaining growth and organisational change management projects aimed at achieving global process standardisation and improvement.
Adrian's interest in project management extends to mentoring project managers in the Diploma of Project Management, to date mentoring over 80 individuals through the qualification. In early 2008, Adrian founded GMTS as an after hours means to pursue his ongoing passion for the development of Project Management Training.
