This also includes the name of your school, your photo or any personal information about your friends or family. If over 18, think carefully about the information you provide online. Consider your privacy and that of your family and friends. |
| • | Be careful about the kind of information you put in a blog, discussion threads or post to a Message Board. It doesn’t take much to give away your identity or other personal details. |
| • | Keep your passwords secret, never give it to anyone. This is your unique key to unlock personal information online. When selecting a password, don’t use names or items which may be common knowledge and hence easy to guess (such as nicknames or pets names). |
| • | Meeting people online might be fun, but remember the people you meet online may not be who they say they are. |
| • | If you want to meet in person someone you have so far only met online, ask a parent or another adult to go with you and always meet in a popular public place, preferably during the day. |
| • | If someone writes something rude or something that makes you feel uncomfortable in chat or email, don’t respond and if able to, report it to the site’s administrator as inappropriate content. |
| • | If under 18, always ask a parent or adult before you fill out any forms, or give out money or credit card details. |
| • | If under 18, tell your parent or another adult you trust if you see upsetting language, nasty pictures or something scary on the internet. |
| • | If under 18, always follow your family’s rules on the internet. They’re there to make sure you have fun and stay safe online. |
| • | Don’t accept any offers that seem too good to be true - they probably are. |
